What is the deregistration process?

Once your contract comes to an end, you will need to deregister your address from the municipality. This is to receive your deposit refund, as well as to allow the next tenant to register their address. In order to process your deposit refund, we request you a proof of deregistration.

How can I deregister?
There are two ways to deregister from your address:
  • The easiest, which is to deregister through the website of municipality, which will take approximately 5 minutes. Here, you will need to log-in with your DigID details. If you have done this, make a screenshot of your application and upload it to your Holland2Stay account as a proof of deregistration.
  • The second way is to make an appointment at the municipality and manually deregister from your address. As a result, you will receive a letter as a confirmation, which can be used as a proof of deregistration.
What if I have never registered myself in the municipality?
In some cases, you do not have to register at the municipality (i.e. if you are staying less than four months in The Netherlands). If so, we do not need your proof of deregistration, but a document that states who you are, where you used to live and that you have never been registered in the municipality. You can upload this document into your Holland2Stay account.
