<p>Considering the current strict lockdown measurements in the Netherlands, we organized an online quiz night for our tenants on December 17, that was being broadcasted live to virtually bring our community together. Since it was our first livestream ever, it came with some bumps at the start. But, that certainly didn’t spoil the fun! We thank all participants for your patience, positivity, and joy! <br><br>The Holland2Stay X-Mas Quiz Night was hosted by Ciana Mayam in a cozy, Christmassy setting! It was an evening filled with good vibes, and great knowledge; with five quiz rounds covering topics as The Year 2020, The Netherlands, Holidays, Entertainment, and Music. Participants were presented 50 questions and a bonus round. <h2>Let us explain to you how to play one of the funniest and easiest Dutch card games: Ezelen.</h2>
<p>Ezelen is a fun game where you have to respond quickly. You can play Ezelen with four to eight players with the aim of getting four identical cards in your hands. At the Amsterdam office, this game is often played during Friday afternoon drinks. We can promise you that you will laugh a lot with this game. Plus, it is very easy to learn. All you need is a pack of cards (for example the cards you got during your check-in) and some friends. Let's get to the basics!</p>
<h3>The start of the game</h3>
<p>First, you have to make sets of four identical cards. You can make as many sets as players who join the game. For example, if you play with five players, you need five sets of four identical cards. Next, shuffle the deck and give four cards to each player.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Before you start, you need to agree on a gesture that every player should make. My personal favorite is to place a hand in the middle of the table. Another popular gesture is to put the tip of your thumb on the table - the funniest is to do this very secretly. You can also grab your earlobe with your hand or put your elbow on the table. Use your creativity!</p>
<h3>The play</h3>
<p>During the game, you need to pass a card (face down) to your neighbor on the left in each round. You always play clockwise. The game is most fun when you play it fast: count down from 3 and pass your card all at once.</p>
<p>The goal of the game is to get a set of cards, for example four Queens. If you have a set of four identical cards, you have to make the gesture that you agreed upon in advance. When one player makes the gesture, all other players need to make the gesture as well, as quickly as possible. The player who makes the gesture last, loses the game.</p>
<h3>The end</h3>
<p>You can keep score on a piece of paper. When you loose a game, write done one letter of the word 'EZEL'. When a player has all four letters behind his name, this player is the ‘ezel’ (donkey). The other players can come up with a funny task for the 'donkey'.</p>

<h2>Let us introduce you to toepen – our favorite Dutch drinking game.</h2>
<p>Toepen is a popular trick-taking game for two to eight players. The best way to meet your new neighbors! Toepen is mostly played as a drinking game, but it can be a gambling game as well with the addition of money. The objective of the game is to win the last trick during each hand.</p>
<h3>Before start</h3>
<p>Toepen is played with a 32-card deck (7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, A). The order of the cards is 10 (highest), 9, 8, 7, A, K, Q, J (lowest). One player is chosen as the dealer. The dealer deals out four cards, one at a time, to each player. The remainder of the pack is left face down in the middle of the table. Any player whose hand consists entirely of Aces, Kings, Queens, or Jacks may discard his hand face downward and deal himself four new cards. This swap may be challenged by another player by revealing it. If it turns out that the player making the exchange has a 10, 9, 8, or 7 card in his original hand, the discarder gets a penalty point (but keeps the new hand). If it was correct, the challenger gets a penalty point.</p>
<p>The score is maintained by peat (see below). A normal game goes to a score of 10 points.</p>

<h3>The play</h3>
<p>The cards are played one at a time face up in tricks. The first card played in a trick determines the suit for that trick. A player must follow suit to win. If a player is unable to play a card from the same suit led with, he may play any card in hand. The highest ranking card played from the suit led wins (or takes) the trick. The winner of a trick can start the next trick in the same round.</p>
<p>The goal is to win the last trick of a round. After the fourth and final trick, each player – except the winner of this final trick – receives a point. The winner of the round has to deal in the next round. The player on the left of the dealer can start the first trick of the next round.</p>
<h3>Toepen</h3>
<p>During a round, a player can ‘toep’ at any time by knocking on the playing surface. This means that the number of points at stake during the round is increased. By electing a toep, the value of the hand is increased by 1 life. Once a player knocks, the other players may either fold and receive the previous point total or risk receiving the new increased total by remaining in the round. Players must wait for someone else to knock within the same hand before knocking again.</p>
<h3>The end</h3>
<p>When a player has nine points (Player 2 in the example above), this player is in pelt (poverty). In order to protect this player, the player on pelt can always start the round, independent of the dealer. All other players have to decide whether they want to play the round for 2 points or leave (before one card is played) for 1 point. A player who has already lost nine lives may not knock. Similarly, a player who has already lost eight lives may not make the second knock, one who has already lost seven lives may not make the third knock, and so on.</p>
<p>Once a player reaches ten points, he is eliminated and buys a round of drinks. The score is reset and a new game may begin.</p>

<p>After the success of our <a href="https://holland2stay.com/blog/livestream-recap-holland2stay-quiz-night" target="_blank" rel="noopener">first online event</a> around Christmas, we decided to celebrate our King’s birthday together with our residents with a festive bingo. Of course, the orange party was not complete without our magnificent hosts: our vlogger Ciana Mayam, and Bingo King Tom.</p>
<p>During the event, three rounds of bingo were played, cocktails were made, our hosts showed how to eat tompouces, and above all: a lot of fun was shared! At the end of the evening, more than 50 prizes were given away, including our custom-designed (and very popular) Holland2Stay socks, a Sonos speaker, an air fryer, and a Nespresso coffee machine.</p>

<p>For all loyal soccer fans, the beginning of this summer was all about EURO 2020. All our tenants had the chance to guess the results of the games and win great prizes. It was a huge success!</p>

Well, that was a good guess...</p>
<h3>Our Distance Disco</h3>
<p>To start the summer even better, we organized a Distance Disco. By showing their dance moves on the beat and selecting fellow tenants that danced on the same rhythm, participants could score points and win their own H2S socks. Woop!</p>

<h2>Ho Ho Holland2Stay! Time to get ready for the new year. This December, all tenants of Holland2Stay were given the opportunity to send in a Christmas wish.</h2>

<p>To maximize the holiday spirit, Holland2Stay has teamed up with Santa Claus this year to surprise some tenants by making their Christmas wish come true. We received over 2.500 great wishes! Of all these wishes, five were selected to become reality.</p>
<h3>Wish #1: From Valentina, living at Keramus in Utrecht</h3>
<p>Valentina realized that most tenants in Keramus have never properly met. So, they started organizing movie nights every Monday. Unfortunately, the tenant with the projector left the building and the meetings have stopped. Her biggest wish was to have a new projector, so they can start enjoying these gatherings again. We made sure there were plenty of snacks available and that they could rent some movies with Pathe Thuis! <h3>Wish #2: From Joost, living at The Lee Towers in Rotterdam</h3>
<p>Christmas is all about gathering with family. But how could we always be present next to our beloved ones if we are working or studying far from home? Joost, one of our tenants living at The Lee Towers, came up with a brilliant idea to help his parents cope with the ‘empty nest syndrome’. He wished for a life-sized cardboard to give to his parents. We gave the cardboard the experience of his life by visiting all the hotspots of Rotterdam. <h3>Wish #3: From Lotte and Kian, living at Faenza in Maastricht</h3>
<p>This year, Lotte and Kian moved into their new apartment in Maastricht. They have asked Santa to make their balcony summer-ready. Although Santa is more fond of winter scenes, he arranged a complete balcony set with accessories. Fully ready to enjoy sunny days in Maastricht! <h3>Wish #4: From Giordana, living at Stationspoort in Den Bosch</h3>
<p>All the way from Mexico and Brazil, Giordana and her partner recently started their new life in the Netherlands. To be completely immersed in the Dutch way of life, they wished for two bicycles. And how much fun is it to explore Den Bosch and its surroundings on a Holland2Stay bicycle?<br>Although they could not receive their presents in person this Christmas, the bicycles are carefully delivered to their new home. Mehnoosh and her partner recently moved to the Netherlands, and their home could use some cozy decoration. <p>After an epic night last year, our King's Day Bingo Night made a comeback on April 24, 2022. The event was hosted by our vlogger Ciana Mayam. <a href="https://holland2stay.com/blog/bingo-recap-kings-day.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Last year</a>, she was assisted by our Bingo King Tom. This year, Tom gave his crown to another great King: Nick.</p>
<p>During the event, three rounds of bingo were played. Ciana and Nick gave away over 50 prizes, including Sonos One SL speakers, JBL wireless earphones, Nespresso coffee machines, and (highly desired) Airfryers XL. Residents could also win comfy orange H2S sweaters and our famous socks. We ended the orange festivities with a toast to the King (and Queen).</p>

<h2>How well do you know your neighbors? Connecting with the people around you makes your place more fun (and safe!). If you've no idea who your neighbors are, it's time to get out of your little bubble. Here are some tips for getting to know your building's community.</h2>
<p>Moving to a new city can be quite overwhelming. It would help if you made your new place feel like home, get acquainted with your new neighborhood, and create new routines. Our tip? Get to know those who are living next to you. Your neighbors know how things work in your new community and can give you valuable tips to help you settle down more easily. The more people you know, the more you feel at home.<br><br>In the Netherlands, we have a common saying that a good neighbor is worth more than a distant friend. When you're out of town, your neighbor can watch your home for unusual activities (and water your plants). Plus, it's handy if you know someone where you can leave a spare key or knock on the door for a missing ingredient for your spaghetti bolognese. <br><br>It takes some effort to get to know your neighbors. Some tips from us:&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Smile and wave</strong><br>First advice: start small. The next time you see your neighbor, smile and say hi. It shows your neighbor that you're open to getting to know him or her. The next time he or she sees you, they will likely greet you too.<br><br></li>
<li><strong>Introduce yourself</strong><br>Another classic move: just head next door (or across the hallway), knock on the door, and introduce yourself. If knocking on your neighbor's door feels too awkward, you can also leave a postcard with your name and contact details. Next time you see your neighbors, they'll likely come back to you about it.<br><br></li>
<li><strong>Invite someone over</strong><br>Just like food, coffee brings people together. Invite your neighbors over for coffee and a chat, or grab a cup together on the go. Even if they only stop by for half an hour, it will surely break the ice.<br><br></li>
<li><strong>Be helpful&nbsp;</strong><br>Keep the elevator open for one another, help carry groceries, accept a package for another, or help someone with tasks that require a hammer or screwdriver. Doing a good thing has never done anyone badly, so be your building's Superman or Superwoman and help each other out!<br><br></li>
<li><strong>Housewarming</strong><br>Our lively and diverse Holland2Stay community consists of people from all over the world. This offers you the opportunity to experience new cultures. You might make new friends! Have you already made the first steps to getting to know your neighbors? Plan a housewarming or another activity.</li>

<h2>To celebrate the King's 56th birthday, we organized our third King's Day Bingo. Time for a recap!</h2>
<p><br>Last week, we celebrated the King's birthday in a fun way with our residents. We organized the King's Day Bingo for the third time and it was a huge success. In total, 1,700 people signed up. Wow! The online bingo itself was hosted by Loïs and our Bingo Queen. After two amazing years with Bingo King Tom and Bingo King Nick, Bingo Queen Shona took over the responsibility this year.&nbsp;</p>
<p>To make the event even more special, we also hosted some get-togethers where people could join the bingo together. We provided snacks and drinks at these get-togethers, and everyone had a great time socializing and playing bingo together.</p>
<p>We played two rounds of bingo and we gave away some fantastic prizes, including Sonos One SL boxes, Nespresso coffee machines, Airfryer XXLs, and limited edition H2S merchandise like bathrobes and slippers. Like last years, the Airfryer XXLs were the most popular.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It was wonderful to see so many of our residents come together to celebrate the King's birthday in such a fun and engaging way. A big <strong>THANK YOU</strong> for those joining and of course congrats to all winners!&nbsp;</p>

<h3>Living up to the views</h3>
<p>As you step inside Yuliia’s home on the 11th floor, the allure of the city’s bustling streets gives way to a serene panorama that stretches across the horizon. “The best thing about my studio is definitely the view,” says Yuliia resolutely. The wall-to-wall windows frame the city center like a living canvas.&nbsp;</p>
<p>“I love starting my mornings with a cup of coffee while enjoying the view. From up here, you can see how the city slowly wakes up every morning.” For Yuliia, it’s a daily reminder of the vibrant city that lies just beyond her doorstep. “I can stare outside for ages, from my couch or bed,” she explains. “There’s so much to see!”</p>

<h3><strong>Living at The Y</strong></h3>
<p>The Y recaptures the spirit of expats and students as home to a mix of Dutch people and internationals from all over the world. There’s a meeting point where residents can work, study, and meet their neighbors. “Coincidentally, friends of mine from Ukraine also live here in The Hague, some even in The Y. I like it when they come over, it's so good to have friends around you. We all really enjoy studying and living in this city." The best memory in her studio is her first birthday: "Everything was decorated with balloons, I loved it!"</p>
<p>Yuliia studies Finance at The Hague University of Applied Sciences (De Haagse Hogeschool). She’s doing her internship in Rotterdam. “As you live next to the railroad station, you can travel to Rotterdam very easily, which is ideal for me.” Eight trains run every hour from Den Haag Holland Spoor, next to The Y, to Rotterdam Central Station. The journey takes you about 18 to 24 minutes door-to-door.</p>

<p>Yuliia has lived in The Hague for a while now. Before she moved into her current studio, she rented a home at The Social Hub, formerly known as The Student Hotel. It was a great place to land after moving to the Netherlands. “I regularly walked past The Y and was wondering what that big Y on the window represented. I started Googling and ended up at the website of Holland2Stay,” she explains.</p>

Every year in September, students upload their proof of enrolment to verify their student status. If you’re no longer a student, you must move within 6 months.</p>

<p>Sanket was quickly convinced when he discovered this apartment at Cornelis Paradise in <a href="https://holland2stay.com/city/eindhoven">Eindhoven</a>. From India, he moved here for work three years ago. "The company I was working for had some housing options for the first months here in the Netherlands. After a couple of months, I found this rental apartment online and decided to move here." His wife Ayushi followed him from India after three months. "Now, we're living here already for two years."</p>

<p>One of the best things about living at Cornelis Paradise is its location. "It's a great combination of city life and countryside life," Ayushi explains. From Cornelis Paradise, it takes you only a couple of minutes to enter the buzzing streets of Eindhoven. Adjacent to a city park, dozens of people gather here to enjoy the calming atmosphere or to picnic on sunny days. "As I'm working from home four days a week, I enjoy walking through the park downstairs during breaks or after work."</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;"><strong>"Cornelis Paradise truly is a paradise to live"</strong></h2>
<p>Ayushi and Sanket rent their apartment fully furnished, meaning they've got everything they need from the moment they started renting here. Think of the big furniture, but also little things such as pans, cutlery, and appliances like a coffee machine and kettle. The bed and couch are highly appreciated by both. "I prefer to stay in bed all day," Ayushi laughs with a little sarcasm. Sanket adds: "And when she's confiscated the bed, I claim the couch as mine." They customized their interior by adding extra furniture and some decoration, like a stand-up desk and piano.</p>

<p>Living on the 9th floor, the views are – to say the least – incredible. The floor-to-ceiling windows are just as wide as the living room, letting in much natural light – even on dark, rainy days. By sliding these windows open, you instantly enjoy a fresh morning breeze or the last sunrays during sunset. “From up here, you can see the seasons changing. In fall, all trees become orange." Especially Ayushi is still amazed by the view. “Laying on the couch at night and looking at the stars gives me the best feeling."</p>
<h3>Living in Eindhoven</h3>
<p>Known as the technology region, Eindhoven and its surroundings are popular with those working for a better future. Besides Sanket and Ayushi's apartment, Cornelis Paradise has 156 other rental studios, apartments, and penthouses. Another 30 different nationalities from all over the world live here, creating a diverse community of people.</p>
<p>Why it's a popular city? “There’s a lot to do in Eindhoven, like cultural things, festivities, and music festivals," Ayushi explains. Sanket adds: “We both join some sports clubs, like roller skating at Area51 in Strijp-S and rowing at Kanaaldijk. At my rowing club, they even adjusted their communication to English as more and more internationals are interested. Although we’ve got some friends living in this neighborhood, it’s an easy way to meet others, which is nice – especially when you work from home."</p>

<p>In August, Francisco and Shehab moved in at VB Student Living in <a href="https://holland2stay.com/city/eindhoven">Eindhoven</a>, like 454 other students of TU/e (Eindhoven University of Technology). VB Student Living is located in the former VB building – for many familiar as the former headquarters of Philips. Students live together in communities, while also having their own private room equipped with everything they need for their stay in Eindhoven. Francesco and Shehab are happy to give a peek inside their rooms and communities.</p>
<h3>Unique concept</h3>
<p>VB Student Living has a unique concept. This building used to be the headquarters of Philips Netherlands (later Philips Benelux and Signify). All office floors have been transformed into 456 furnished student rooms, with on each floor four community groups. Francisco explains: “Everyone has their own room. In every community, you live with around 9 others. I’m in another group than Shehab, but we can visit each other as there’s only one door between both groups.” Every group has its own kitchen, living space, and sanitary facilities to share.</p>
<p>Shehab: “Every group has its own rules. One has strict rules about, for example cleaning the shared kitchen, the other leaves it until it’s a bit out of control. So far, it’s working well in my group.” Besides sharing a kitchen, living space, and sanitary facilities with their own group, there’s more in the building. On the ground floor, there's a large garden to enjoy study breaks and there will come a quiet corner for focused studying.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;"><strong>"We've got awesome views over Philips de Jongh Park and Strijp-S" – Shehab</strong></h2>
<p>All furnished rooms are about 15 to 19 square meters and have all the space a student needs. A private room allows students to focus on their studies without distractions. It’s a place where they can recharge, unwind, and seek some personal space. The rooms have large windows with spectacular views. Shehab: “We’re living on the 11th floor, with awesome views over Philips de Jongh Park and Strijp-S.” Francisco adds: “The sun sets at our side, so we’ve had some great evening views.” Students living on the other side of the building look out over Woensel and Eindhoven’s city center.</p>

<p>College is a time of academic challenges and personal growth, and for many a time of living away from home for the first time. After the TU/e introduction week and the first weeks of college, Francisco and Shehab are now getting used to their student lives. They are both freshmen at TU/e and started their bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering. They became friends quickly: “It’s a coincidence that we’re doing the same study at TU/e.”</p>
<p>Living in this student community is a significant opportunity to build lifelong friendships. It’s a place where different backgrounds come together, and shared living spaces provide an ideal environment for forming strong connections. “From late-night study sessions to weekend movie nights, you create bonds that can last forever here”, Shehab explains. Francisco: “Simply having someone to discuss course material with makes your study time definitely easier.”</p>

<p>“After the introduction week of TU/e, I went back to Sweden to pack the last things for the big move. I only had to take my personal belongings with me, as there already was a bed and furniture. I never had a bed this big,” Francisco says enthusiastically.</p>

Property Manager Samantha explains: “Everyone learns about different cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives by interacting with their diverse group of neighbors and fellow students. I think it’s good to have fellow students around you when studying. It’s good for your emotional well-being. It will help battle feelings of homesickness that some students may experience. You’re sharing this experience with each other. It’s new for everyone.”</p>

These three buildings (Tower 40, 50, and 60) are a popular choice by international and Dutch people. Yang (25) moved from China to the Netherlands and participated in Holland2Stay’s lottery several times. Determined to get her hands on a new home at DNA, she eventually won the lottery for a studio in Tower 60. And what kind of one!</p>

<h3>Rearranging by moving furniture</h3>
<p>Yang rents a studio of 36 m<sup>2</sup>. Fully furnished, she got everything she’d need during her stay here. Think of furniture, appliances, and things like cutlery and a vacuum cleaner. “When I first entered my new home, the placement of the furniture was a bit different than on the floorplan. Previous tenants had moved the bed towards the window, which I quite liked. Imagine waking up and seeing the Erasmus bridge in the distance from your bed. But as I rent a studio, I wanted to create a kind of separate bedroom area. I shuffled around with my furniture until I was satisfied. I placed my bed in the corner and created a bedroom area that way. With a cabinet separating the living area from the bedroom area, it truly feels like I’ve got an extra space!”</p>

<h3>Background views with Willemsbrug and Erasmusbrug</h3>
<p>One side of DNA has views over de Nieuwe Maas (New Meuse). That includes sights of the red Willembrug and the famous Erasmusbrug in the distance. “I love staring outside and watching people cycling by. Or watch the boats coming by.” Yang's work is also easily accessible from DNA. “I cycle from here along the docks of the river towards my work. It's only a 10-minute bike ride away!”. Yang explains the perfect balance: “I love working from home, as I have amazing views over the river when I work from behind my desk. It’s really calm. You can also enjoy Rotterdam’s skyline, which is cool.”</p>
<p>Although living near Rotterdam’s city center, you live in a quiet area when you rent at DNA. “You’re living really close to the center – you can even see Markthal from up here.” If you’re not into walking or biking, you can grab a metro or train from Blaak or Oostplein.</p>

Students and working professionals, you’ll both find them here. “I like it that there are more internationals than just me.” At the beginning of September this year, Holland2Stay organized a rooftop gathering. “It was nice to meet my neighbors. There was a DJ, lots of snacks and drinks, and many people showed up. It was nice!”</p>
<h3>Winning the lottery</h3>
<p>Yang explains that it’s hard to find a rental home in the Netherlands. “Especially when you’re not familiar with this country and don’t know where to start, it can be hard! I was very lucky and very happy when I won the lottery for this studio. It feels like I’ve won the lottery, haha!”</p>

<p>Mika moved to Amsterdam for work. “I work at a large law firm on the Zuidas.” This southern part of the Dutch capital is also referred to as a high-end business district. Mika: “Amsterdam's Zuidas is known as the business and legal heart of the Netherlands.” Living at WFC Lofts, he only needs to travel 15 minutes to his work. “I can easily grab the metro to work. It’s also only around 15 minutes by bike to Amsterdam’s city center – depending on where you want to go, as Amsterdam is big. When I go out, I’ll go to Leidseplein by bike.”</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;"><strong>"I don't know my neighbors very well yet, but everyone says hi! People are very kind."</strong></h2>
<h3><strong>Central but calm</strong></h3>
<p>Although Mika now lives centrally located in Amsterdam, he finds it a calm area to live. Around the corner, Rembrandtpark features some lakes, places for a coffee stop, and lots of lanes and lawns. For many, it’s a great alternative to the popular Vondelpark – which is also around the corner. “On a sunny day, I love to walk to Rembrandpark. If I go into the park, I can easily walk up to 40 minutes.” Living at WFC Lofts, Mika has everything he’ll need close by. “I don't really like to cook, so I order food regularly. Plenty of choice here! Supermarkets and a gym are within walking distance as well.”</p>

<p>If he has enough space to live in his studio? Mika’s answer is yes. His studio is around 44 square meters. “I’ve got plenty of space. The biggest plus is the privacy. I don’t have to share my space with roommates and I’ve a kitchen and bathroom to myself. That’s quite unique in Amsterdam. I even have air conditioning – although I haven’t had to adjust the temperature in my studio.” As Mika rents fully furnished, he doesn’t have to buy furniture or appliances. “Credits for my mom, as she decorated it a bit.”</p>
<h3><strong>World Fashion Centre</strong></h3>
<p>WFC stands for World Fashion Centre. Located in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, you’ll find this building at Koningin Wilhelminaplein. Around this square, many other buildings from the fashion industry can be found. As they were becoming poorly accessible in Amsterdam’s busy city center in the 1950s, many moved to the south of Amsterdam. WFC used to be an important building for the fashion industry. The complex consists of three towers connected by low-rise buildings. One of those three towers is transformed into a residential building with 295 rental homes.</p>

<p>Soshala (28) moved from Sri Lanka to the Netherlands five years ago. The reason behind his move was the start of his study at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). After completing his master's degree, he's now pursuing a PhD. In November 2023, he decided to move to STAYground in <a href="https://holland2stay.com/city/sittard">Sittard</a>. Recently married, his wife will join him soon from Sri Lanka.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>From Eindhoven to Sittard</h3>
<p>Even though it’s almost 70 kilometers away from his work in Eindhoven, he enjoys living in Sittard. “STAYground has a train station next door, so it’s really easy to travel to Eindhoven.” It takes you about 45 minutes, less than going by car – especially when it’s busy on the roads. "I can work from home and if I need to go to work, I travel door-to-door within an hour. It's fine for me!"</p>
<p>Soshala felt a need to seek housing outside Eindhoven. “A colleague of mine already lived at STAYground and highly recommended it.” He continues: "As Eindhoven is a bigger city and more popular, rents are higher than here in Sittard. The competition for a home is much higher as well. I was able to book this home in STAYground directly. I only had to leave my details and the studio was mine. I didn't have to participate in a lottery either."</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;"><strong>"A colleague of mine already lived here and highly recommended it."</strong></h2>
<p>Soshala is not the only one who lives far away from work. He knows quite a few people who also rent in STAYground. “Some are colleagues, but there are also a few former fellow students who have found their home here. When I catch the train in the mornings, I often see them waiting on the platform.” Besides being a popular place to live for those working or studying in Maastricht, Soshala proves that STAYground is a good housing option for those working or studying in Eindhoven too.</p>

<h3>Staying in STAYground</h3>
<p>STAYground is part of PITground, a multifunctional area. This place brings together student and expat accommodation (STAYground), offices and meeting rooms (WORKground), and leisure spaces (SPAREground). By bringing together all these facilities, it's a vibrant place to live. You feel it when you walk in. Residents can enjoy all the facilities. “I only just live here, but I’m planning to get a gym membership at HOLYFIT.ground. I don't have to travel far, so that's no longer an excuse for not going to the gym. I need to explore the other facilities still, but so far it looks good!”</p>
<p>STAYground’s studios have lots of smart solutions. Soshala can store stuff on top of his bedroom and has a space-saving loft bed. “It keeps everything a bit more separated. When you have a bed in your studio, you lose a lot of space. Now, it's above my desk so it's not in the way.” His kitchen feels like a different room, including a round table with plenty of chairs surrounding it. He only bought a television cabinet. “I like the place and space!”</p>

<p>Sophie is a born and raised ‘Eindhovenaar’. “Until 2021, I lived with my parents in Eindhoven. I wanted to live on my own in my hometown. For starters, a loft like this one in Victoriapark is perfect. I live in the city center of <a href="https://holland2stay.com/city/eindhoven">Eindhoven</a>, I'm close to everything I need, and I can bicycle to my work.” Victoriapark Lighting is right in the center of Eindhoven and houses 543 lofts, 24 apartments, and 49 penthouses. The upper floors include stunning views over the city. “I have a view over the Philips Stadium and its surroundings. If I open my windows during soccer games, I can hear the cheering from the stadium before the goal is shown on the television. On bright evenings, I can enjoy some amazing sunsets which are very picturesque.”</p>

<h3>From Philips headquarter to homes</h3>
<p>Eindhoven is the city of Philips. Philips Lighting's headquarters was built at Mathildelaan in 1980. With the disappearance of the production from Eindhoven, all Philips buildings became vacant. In 2016, the former Philips Lighting office building was converted into a total of 616 rental homes. Thanks to its golden yellow color, Victoriapark Lighting has become a recognizable city icon of Eindhoven.</p>
<p>During the transformation, all facades have been renovated. The structure of the building and the concrete stairways have been preserved. The original state of the raw columns, beams, and ceiling gives the city lofts an industrial character. “If you consider the history of this building, the original ceiling and walls give a unique touch to the building and the homes. I think it adds an industrial vibe, which is nice and corresponds with my taste in furniture and accessories.”</p>

<h3>Loft living in Victoriapark Lighting</h3>
<p>Where studios have a bed on the same floor as the couch and kitchen, lofts have an entresol or mezzanine where a bedroom space is created. Sophie explains: “Although this loft isn’t very big, 47 square meters is fine for me on my own.” Victoriapark Lighting’s lofts have 4-meter-high walls and windows, making the room more spacious. The windows can open full width.</p>

<p>Although Sophie rents her loft fully furnished, she still moved some of her own furniture with her. “I have stored the couch of Holland2Stay somewhere else. When I leave Victoriapark Lighting, I'll put everything back in place to return it to its original condition.” There are hardly any drawbacks, according to Sophie. “Sometimes, I miss extra storage space, but with the large closet and compartment cabinet, you come a long way. A good reason not to accumulate too much stuff in the years I’ll live here.”</p>
<h3>Renting in Eindhoven's city center</h3>
<p>Victoriapark Lighting is part of the new Emmasingelkwadrant, an area in downtown Eindhoven that is still in development. Living in the middle of the city center has a lot of advantages. Sophie can often be found at the cinema or in one of the city’s restaurants. “As you live in the middle of the city center, you easily walk into the center in the evenings and weekends. And the choice of having food delivered is huge here. A big plus, haha!” For fresh coffee, lunch, and dinner, you even don't have to go into town. Brownies&amp;downieS, ZwartWit Koffie, and restaurants Martini's and Victoria by Goyvaerts are located on the ground floor. "There's a Jumbo supermarket downstairs, which is really convenient."</p>

<p>Philips Bedrijfsschool houses 30 types of lofts, varying in size and layout. Vanina rents one of the smaller ones. Her bedroom space and bathroom are located upstairs, without any walls separating it from the rest of the space. “It’s kind of like a room on the second floor of your house, but instead of being surrounded by walls, it’s open to the rest of the area.” The original ceiling and big windows remind of the old times when the building was a school for students of Philips. Now, it's a monumental building housing 443 rental homes.</p>
<h3>From Bulgaria to the Netherlands</h3>
<p>Vanina is from Bulgaria and has been renting a loft in Philips Bedrijfsschool since 2021. She came to live in the Netherlands because of her study at TU/e. "Because the study I’m doing appears to be better in the Netherlands than the one in Bulgaria, the choice was easy. After my studies, I would like to stay and live in the Netherlands." Like her father, Vanina is a fan of the Netherlands. He always hoped that one of his two daughters would live in the Netherlands. "My sister went to live in England, so I 'had' to go to Holland - haha." She enjoys being surrounded by other internationals in the building. Vanina: "Dutch people are very nice, by the way. They know how to party!".</p>

<h3>Moving from one Philips building to another</h3>
<p>Before moving into Philips Bedrijfsschool, Vanina rented in Victoriapark Lighting – also rented out by Holland2Stay. "Victoriapark Lighting has the same kind of lofts as here. However, here you have a little more space. The sleeping area is higher, which is nice, because I'm quite tall!" The large window in the living room lets in a lot of sunlight. "Because I'm often at the uni, I enjoy the moments when I'm at home extra. When I'm not working out at Basic Fit in the Philips Stadium or swimming at SSC at TU/e, I like being at home. Especially when the sun's out! If I go out, you can find me at Stratumseind.”</p>
<p>Vanina rents her lofts fully furnished, meaning Holland2Stay provided her with furniture and essentials to start her daily life here. "I was very happy that the house was furnished beforehand, but I also brought my own things. The interior is nice, there was new furniture when I moved here." Every nook and cranny in her loft has its own function. "I don't have a fave spot; I like every spot actually."</p>

<h3>Community</h3>
<p>Living among many other students and young professionals is fun according to Vanina. "We have contact with each other through a WhatsApp group. Sometimes parties are organized." The roof terrace is a popular place to get together with neighbors. Especially in summer, the sun is fully enjoyed. Laughing, she says, "I haven't been to a party myself yet, because I have a bit of social anxiety for that. But it seems to be a lot of fun!".</p>
<p>Although Vanina does not actively seek much contact with her neighbors, she has found many international friends in Eindhoven. "Every time we come together, someone cooks a dish from his or her home country. So, we eat something different every time! Also, the neighbors are super friendly and everyone helps each other, for example picking up packages."</p>

<h3>History of Philips Bedrijfsschool</h3>
<p>Philips built this remarkable building at Frederiklaan in 1929 to train its own staff. The building housed several classrooms, workplaces, and laboratories. After graduating, students were guaranteed a job at Philips. After being bombed during World War II, it transformed into the building as we know it now. Besides classrooms, it housed Philips’ payroll department, the purchasing department, the patent office, the study fund, and the Philips archive for a long time. In the basement, a vault still reminds us of the weekly payment of salary in the well-known salary bags.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;"><strong>"I like that they preserved much of the building." – Vanina</strong></h2>
<p>Until 1989, thousands of Philips students walked through this building’s doors. From 1994, students of Technisch Lyceum Eindhoven, and later Summa College, followed in their footsteps. In 2019, the building was transformed into 443 homes. Diederendirrix designed the transformation. Many monumental elements were preserved during the transformation, such as stairwells and the original tiles. Vanina says: "I like that they preserved much of the building. There are also pictures in the hallways showing how it used to look." Philips’ workplace in the building became Boulder Gym Monk and the classrooms became city lofts. Now home to many international and Dutch students and young professionals working in or around Eindhoven.</p>

<h3>Philipsdorp</h3>
<p>Philips Bedrijfsschool stands tall in the middle of Philipsdorp. This part of Eindhoven dates back to 1910 and was built to offer Philips employees good housing close to work. After all, Eindhoven was packed with Philips factories. It started with a small factory at Emmasingel, where light bulbs were produced. Later, factories were built at Strijp-S. Homes at Philipsdorp were modern and spacious for that time – even connected to the sewer system and equipped with gas and water supply. Did you know that the rent in the early days was only 1.75 gulden per week? All amenities were close to home. Besides work, all amenities were close by, like company stores, a bathhouse, sports fields, and of course a school: Philips Bedrijfsschool. The remaining parts of Philipsdorp in Eindhoven are now being preserved, including the looks of Philips Bedrijfsschool.</p>

<h2>Did you miss out on the biggest event of the year? Time for a quick rundown of the fourth edition of the King's Day Bingo!&nbsp;</h2>
<p>On April 24, 2024, we pre-celebrated the most festive day in the Netherlands: King’s Day. Almost 2,000 residents tuned in on YouTube for the fourth edition of the King’s Day Bingo. It was a big success!</p>
<p>This year’s King’s Day Bingo could be followed online from home or at one of the locations in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Maarssen, Groningen, Eindhoven, Sittard, and Arnhem. Armed with snacks and drinks, everyone had a great time socializing. Host Loïs presented the live stream together with Bingo Queen Joana, one of our Property Managers in Eindhoven.</p>

<h2>Starting your study in Maastricht? Exciting! You’re starting a new chapter in your life. Relocating to a new place for your study can be stressful. To make sure you’re about to enjoy your time in Maastricht, we’ve got you covered with some tips to start on the right foot.</h2>
<h3><strong>Hello Maastricht</strong></h3>
<p>Let’s start by properly introducing the city of <a href="https://holland2stay.com/city/maastricht">Maastricht</a>. Maastricht lives, celebrates, and enjoys good food and drinks. Everyone agrees that Maastricht is a perfect blend of Burgundian hospitality and coziness. It’s the biggest city in the southern province and is surrounded by nature places, wine fields, and some (yes, actual) hills.<br><br>Students love Maastricht. <a href="https://www.hotelschoolmaastricht.nl/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hotel Management School of Maastricht</a> and <a href="https://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Maastricht University</a> found their home in Maastricht. With half of its students being international, you can say this is quite an international city. Many students pop into the city center or one of the many parks during the weekends. There’s a vibrant social scene, so you’ll be entertained all year long. The strong sense of belonging makes it a welcoming city.</p>
<h3><strong>Student housing in Maastricht</strong></h3>
<p>Before starting your student life in Maastricht, it’s wise to start looking for a home. In Maastricht, there are different types of rental housing available. The most common is to live on campus or to rent a studio.</p>

<li>If you’re a first-year student at Hotel Management School Maastricht, you’ll live on campus. Together with some other students, you’re forming a community. You share the living area and the kitchen with other students from your community. You’ve got a private room for yourself, including a bathroom.</li>
<li>Another option for student housing is to rent a (student) studio. It tends to be more expensive, but you benefit from having privacy and independence. In Maastricht, there are several housing options for students only, like <a href="https://holland2stay.com/building/bassin">Bassin</a><strong> </strong>or <a href="https://holland2stay.com/comingsoon/limburglaan">Limburglaan</a>. Surrounded by other students, it’s easy to connect with fellow students. Big advantage!<br><br></li>

<p>Being a student, you most likely want to live on a budget. Therefore, it’s extra important to check if you’re entitled to receive a housing allowance (huurtoeslag) from the Dutch government. <h3><strong>Student associations in Maastricht</strong></h3>
<p>There’s no better way to meet other students in Maastricht than by joining a student association (studentenvereniging) of your study. Maastricht has many student associations, but also social associations and sports associations. That’s what makes your study time memorable! There are lots of student associations and organizations in Maastricht.”<br><br>Matt has been chairman of Amphitryon. Therefore, he advises becoming part of a student association. “Amphitryon has its own bar on campus that regularly hosts parties and events. This is ideal for students because you don't have to go all the way to the city for a party. Besides that, a beer at the bar at Amphitryon is less expensive than the ones in the center!”</p>
<h3><strong>Explore the city of Maastricht</strong></h3>
<p>Studying here, you probably will be in the city most of your student time. And you should! Maastricht is a beautiful Burgundian city. Think of cobblestone streets, many good restaurants and terraces, and a lovely atmosphere. Get out, explore your new city, and make it your mission to find the best coffee spots or lunch places to go. The more you get to know the city, the more you’ll start to feel at home. Plus, you can give your visitors a good tour of the city once they come to visit you. Win-win!</p>
<h3><strong>Start learning Dutch</strong></h3>
<p>You don’t have to worry about the Dutch language or Limburgian accent in Maastricht. Although local people speak Dutch with people from elsewhere in the Netherlands, everybody is happy and (most are) skilled in speaking English. However, it can be handy to learn some Dutch words. In some situations, it will give you confidence if you can make yourself understood. Maastricht University offers <a href="https://curriculum.maastrichtuniversity.nl/education/course/dutch-language-course">Dutch language courses</a>, focusing on speaking and listening.</p>

<h3>A new city, a new home</h3>
<p>Chantelle has spent most of her life living in different cities in the Netherlands. As she is currently studying in Amsterdam, she was looking for a place close by. "I had applied for a place at Boomerang in Maarssen before, but unfortunately, it wasn't successful. When I found Benjamin in Amersfoort, I knew this was my chance," Chantelle shares enthusiastically. After a few weeks, she received the exciting news: the studio was hers!&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Moving into her new studio</h3>
<p>Last Saturday was the big day. With the help of family and friends, Chantelle moved all her belongings to her new studio in Benjamin. It wasn't a small move – she needed 20 moving boxes to pack everything.&nbsp;Those 20 moving boxes were mostly filled with her Funko Pops. "I have seven moving boxes full of Funko Pops," Chantelle laughs as she talks about her obsession with the colorful figures. She owns 120 in total, each holding a special place in her heart (and now in her new home too). They will be carefully displayed in her studio, adding a personal touch to the space.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>A new life in Amersfoort&nbsp;</h3>
<p>Chantelle starts her new semester this week, but before that, she wants to explore the city of Amersfoort. "I haven't seen much of the city yet, but the Holland2Stay employees tell me it's a fantastic place to live," she says. Several of her friends live across the country in various buildings managed by Holland2Stay, which gives her the confidence that she will soon feel at home here too.<br><br>With a busy academic year ahead, Chantelle is relieved to have found her new base in Amersfoort. She is happy to finally have a place of her own where she can focus on her studies and hobbies. Her new studio at Benjamin isn’t just a place to live; it's a space where she can continue to grow, make new friends, and make the most of her student life. And who knows, maybe her Funko Pop collection will soon grow with new additions from her new hometown!</p>

Meet our community: Moving into Benjamin in Amersfoort

<h2>There's nothing more fun than looking inside someone's home. Get inspired by how our residents have decorated their rental homes. This time, step inside a semi-furnished apartment of Ceylonpoort in Haarlem.</h2>
<p>Nestled on one of the top floors, their 70 m² apartment boasts two bedrooms, a cozy balcony, and expansive windows that frame breathtaking sunsets. Since arriving in the Netherlands three months ago, Negin and her husband embraced their new surroundings with enthusiasm and curiosity.</p>
<h3>From Katwijk to Haarlem</h3>
<p>For Negin, the journey to Ceylonpoort marks her first time living in the Netherlands, though she’s traveled extensively. Before moving here, she called the seaside village of Katwijk home. Trading the salty North Sea breeze for Haarlem was a significant change, but she’s thrilled about it.&nbsp;“I’m grateful to live next to Schalkwijk shopping mall,” she shares.&nbsp;Adapting to Dutch life also meant embracing cycling culture − she recently bought her first bike and is eager to explore more of the city on two wheels.</p>

<h3><br>Building a community</h3>
<p>Though the building is still filling up, Negin has already met a few neighbors, including some fellow Persians. In total, Ceylonpoort now houses residents from 26 different nationalities, making it a vibrant hub of international cultures.<br><br>Despite the shared areas like the gym and laundry room still being under construction during our visit, the sense of community is already taking shape. “Everyone here is so kind and welcoming,” she says. Contrary to the stereotype of Dutch directness, she’s found the locals warm and approachable.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>A home filled with light and warmth</h3>
<p>What stands out most about their apartment is its brightness. The large East-facing windows flood the space with natural light, creating a cozy, inviting atmosphere. Negin particularly loves her evenings on the couch, where she can unwind with a view of the stunning sunsets.&nbsp;To personalize their space, the couple painted the walls in a warm hue, perfectly complementing their furniture. <h3><br>Exploring Dutch culture</h3>
<p>Her first trip into Dutch culture included a memorable trip to Amsterdam during Pride. "It was incredible to see people from so many nationalities coming together,” she recalls. The vibrant energy of the city and its people left a lasting impression. For now, Negin is settling into Haarlem, enjoying its picturesque charm. “Everything here looks like a painting,” she says, describing her initial impressions of the city.</p>
